]]>As many are aware, there are currently no deaths directly linked to overdosing on cannabis. While this is technically true, new studies suggest that there actually are negative effects of Cannabis that do exists.
While weed is still a lot safer than many of its fellow schedule 1 substances, new reports are recognizing the risk of Scromiting. What is Scromiting? It is short for Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS).
First, when we describe what Scromiting is, you may compare it to being alcohol intoxicated. You drank, smoked too much. Hopefully, it’s not going to involve a trip to the hospital because, after all, it’s weed, right? Who gets rushed to the hospital in an ambulance after smoking weed?
That is part of the prevailing culture about cannabis. There is no possible harmful outcome if you smoke too much or ingest or smoke cannabis with a high potency concentrate. But it’s not good. And in some cases, it can be life-threatening and cause permanent side effects.
There have been fatalities due to CHS recorded, but they are rare. Nonetheless, the condition is not only panic-inducing; it can cause lasting serious damage to internal organs.
For someone to develop CHS, they have to be using high potency cannabis daily for weeks. Many medical patients use Cannabis on a daily basis, but the weed they are using has nowhere near the potency that causes Scromiting (70 - 90%). Symptoms of Scromiting include persistent vomiting and nausea.
Where did the term ‘Scromiting’ come from? The first incident of the use of the term seems to be from 2004 with a single case in Australia. However, the unique case was not documented. The word has come to mean “screaming and vomiting.”
Why the screaming? Imagine having persistent cyclic vomiting that doesn’t go away? After a while, it hurts your stomach and your muscles, and it is scary. All those features could account for the ‘screaming’ part of the condition.
With all of the noise relating to CBD, finding out how much you should really be using has become quite a difficult task. This is a result of an industrial boom brought on by the Farm Bill in 2018.
There are online dosage calculators but those are not backed by any science. These "calculators" are at fault for much of the misinformation in the industry as they just spit out random numbers to people who are looking for actual relief.
The figure below is a report on a double blind study of 50 individuals with various weights and CBD needs, clearly showing that there is no association between the two variables like there is with alcohol.

The figure below is a report on a double blind study of 50 individuals with various weights and CBD needs, clearly showing that there is no association between the two variables like there is with alcohol.
Here you can see that as the weight of the individual goes up, there is no correlation with an increasing CBD/THC dose. This is something that is widely misunderstood among CBD and THC users.
On average, people spend 6 months and $3,000 dollars trying to find the perfect amount of CBD that they should be taking to get the relief they ever so desired.
If you want to skip the long, costly process, try our patent-pending, revolutionary GREENWAY DNA Dosage Test kit to find out your specific dosage.
Our tests are created by field-leading geneticists to have spent their lives understanding how CBD and THC effect your endocannabinoid system and how your specific DNA can tell you how much you should be taking.
Your individualized dose is dependent on many factors, which is why the only true way to know how much you should really be taking is by looking into your DNA. Our lab will analyze your saliva and within 2-4 weeks you will be confident in the amount of CBD or THC you should be taking.
CBD is typically used to help with anxiety, chronic pain, epilepsy, and insomnia. It is currently used by millions of people across the globe, although many are not using it with proper amounts.
We have found that people generally are taking much less than they should be to get full relief from whatever ailment they might be trying to combat.
CBD interacts with the cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1R), the serotonin 5-HT1A receptor, along with other receptors in the brain that regulate fear and anxiety-induced behaviors.
The authors of the review also found preclinical and clinical evidence that established CBD as an effective treatment for numerous types of anxiety disorders, including:
In a more recent study, researchers evaluated CBD’s effects in 397 adults living in New Zealand. The study participants received medical CBD prescriptions for a variety of ailments, including non-cancer pain, cancer-related symptoms, neurological symptoms, and mental health symptoms.
All groups reported improvements in their overall quality of life after 3 weeks of CBD treatment. The individuals who received CBD treatment for anxiety or depression reportedly experienced improvements in their ability to perform daily functions and reduce pain and anxiety or depression symptoms.
70% of study participants reported some level of satisfaction with CBD treatment, ranging from good to excellent. Only 9.9% of participants experienced adverse side effects, such as sedation and vivid dreams. An even smaller portion of the study population (0.8%) reported worsening symptoms.
Researchers evaluated the effects of CBD treatment in 72 adults with either anxiety or sleep problems.
The majority of study participants received one 25 milligram capsule of CBD once a day (mg/d). A few participants received 50 or 75 mg/d. One individual with a history of trauma and schizoaffective disorder received up to 175 mg/d.
After the first 2 months of CBD treatment, 78.1–79.2% of participants reported improvements in anxiety symptoms. However, 15.3–19.5% of participants developed worse symptoms after CBD treatment.
The authors of one article reviewed eight studies investigating CBD’s role in treating various anxiety disorders.
The authors found evidence to support the use of CBD as an effective monotherapy or complementary therapy for treating generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
However, the studies showed considerable variation in CBD doses, ranging from 6-400 mg per dose. This variation highlights the need for more high-quality, large-scale clinical trials to help establish standardized dosing and clinical usage guidelines for CBD therapy.

]]>If you are wondering how much CBD you should be taking to combat your anxiety, we have good news for you; so are millions of others just like you.
Traditionally, finding a dosage recommendation for anxiety was near impossible. You could go to one of the online dosage calculators but those have no data to support their findings or you could just start on a low dose and work your way up, but that can be costly and take a long time.
]]>Traditionally, finding a dosage recommendation for anxiety was near impossible. You could go to one of the online dosage calculators but those have no data to support their findings or you could just start on a low dose and work your way up, but that can be costly and take a long time.
We have developed a science based DNA kit that uses your specific genetic traits and analyzes your cannabinoid receptors, so you can be confident in your journey to wellness.
The graph below shows a study done on 52 random individuals that measured their body weight in relation to how much CBD or THC they should be taking for anxiety. This was completed to show that all of the online calculators and people saying that your dose depends on your weight are flat out wrong.
The reason why CBD and THC have no relation to weight is because they are responding to your endocannabinoid system, which has no correlation to body size. CBD and THC are medicines that are individualized and should not be grouped, as they commonly are with alcohol.
The human body has many different cannabinoid receptors. Receptors are protein-based chemical structures that are attached to your cells. They receive signals from different stimuli. CBD interacts with many, but the most known are the CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors are mostly found in the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system, respectively.
Serotonin, a neurotransmitter, plays an important role in your mental health. Low serotonin levels are commonly associated with people who have depression. In some cases, not having enough serotonin may also cause anxiety.
Many people with anxiety manage their condition with CBD instead of an SSRI. However, you should talk to your doctor before making changes to your treatment plan.

New evidence suggests that even one dose of Cannabidiol (CBD) in the right dose can lower high blood pressure significantly. When taken, CBD actively relaxes blood vessels and in turn calms your blood pressure by letting your blood flow with ease.
Arterial constriction is necessary to prevent bleeding and to limit your blood flow rate. During this process, blood flow is usually restricted, your body heat is retained, and vascular resistance increases. This, in turn, increases arterial pressure. For reference, a normal blood pressure is usually measured at 120/80 mm of Hg. Anything higher than this average constitutes hypertension and is likely a sign of persistent vasoconstriction. The malfunctioning of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone (RAAS) hormone can also cause hypertension. To reduce blood pressure, the process of vasodilation needs to occur. This is where CBD might come into play. Since it could act as a natural vasodilator, it might help relax your arterial walls, allowing blood to flow smoothly.
Blood pressure is the force that is placed on your arterial walls when blood is pumped throughout your body. The amount of pressure rises and falls throughout the day, based on how your body responds to physical, environmental, and emotional stimuli. It also depends on your arterial diameter and flexibility.
While small fluctuations are normal, high blood pressure (when the pressure level consistently stays above normal range) is problematic. This condition is also referred to as hypertension and it is a severe medical problem. Why? The danger with high blood pressure is that this chronic condition can lead to cardiovascular complications such as stroke, heart disease, heart attack, and even aneurysm. It also worsens with age; therefore, high blood pressure needs to be controlled. Additionally, when you have high blood pressure, your vessels may sustain damage by the constant onslaught. And these triggers may help us understand the connection between CBD and blood pressure.
You've probably heard the terms cannabis, marijuana, and hemp all tossed around in relation to CBD. The plant Cannabis sativa has two primary species, hemp and marijuana. Both contain CBD, but there's a much higher percentage in hemp, which also has very low (less than 0.3%) levels of THC compared to marijuana.
CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to a report from the World Health Organization “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
CBD is readily obtainable in most parts of the United States, though its exact legal status is in flux. All 50 states have laws legalizing CBD with varying degrees of restriction, and while the federal government still considers CBD in the same class as marijuana, it doesn’t habitually enforce against it. In December 2015, the FDA eased the regulatory requirements to allow researchers to conduct CBD trials. Currently, many people obtain CBD online without a medical cannabis license. The governments stance on CBD is confusing, and depends in part on whether the CBD comes from hemp or marijuana. The legality of CBD is expected to change, as there is currently bipartisan consensus in Congress to make the hemp crop legal which would, for all intents and purposes, make CBD difficult to prohibit.

As we have seen with CBD and THC, the use of pharmacogenetics (how people respond differently to drug therapy based upon their genetic makeup or genes) is the only way to standardize alternative medicine.
One of the biggest challenges that people face when looking outside of traditional medicine is the lack of understanding and science as it pertains to individualized dosages.
]]>One of the biggest challenges that people face when looking outside of traditional medicine is the lack of understanding and science as it pertains to individualized dosages.
We have taken out the guesswork and over the last several years have developed the science to give you your own dosages based on your own genetic makeup.
While we currently offer dosage test kits for CBD and THC, psychedelic dosages are coming in the very near future. See our current dosage recommendation test kits here.
We recently sat down with the team from PSYCHEDELIC INVEST to talk about the future of our tests and how it will change the wellness industry. Click Here to see it.
We’ve spent the last three years developing individual genetic tests that use a similar methodology as 23andME or Ancestry.com to look at lineage, hereditary, genealogy, etc. You take a spit test, that test goes to a molecular lab, and we do full genomic sequencing on it.
Rather than looking solely for genetic variance, which is what 23andMe is doing, we’re looking at genetic variants relative to metabolism receptors, brain receptors and body receptors. We overlay that against the endocannabinoid system as well as against different medical conditions. We then create a recommendation on an individualized basis for that patient for different medical conditions.
We look at things like insomnia, stress, pain, anxiety, and an individual’s genetic variance relative to those core factors. We can then make a dosing recommendation of how many milligrams of CBD or THC, and then at what ratio. We look at when it should be taken for insomnia or pain, anxiety, PTSD, these types of things. Obviously, for each individual and their medical indications, those ratios are different. Take a look at our sample report.
While CBD/THC use different genetic receptors than psychedelics, it is a similar formula. We are currently testing our formula with various health and wellness centers, clinics, etc.

"Is this all making sense so far? It seemed pretty straight-forward to me at this point."
"I received a package in the mail with a tube that the user was prompted to spit into. I had to get enough spit to fill the CBD DNA tube to a certain point. I think It took about 3 minutes of spitting to get it to that point – not hard at all. After that, I had to activate the CBD DNA test kit. Each kit comes with a code that you input into a website. You enter information like your name, age, gender, etc., and put in the code when prompted."

]]>Studies of THC effects on human being led to discovery of a cannabinoid receptor (CB1) gene and human endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS was defined as the ensemble of 1) two transmembrane and G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) proteins for THC—cannabinoid receptor type 1(CB1) and cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2); 2) 2 endogenous ligands, the “endocannabinoids” N-arachidonoylethanolamine (anandamide) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG); and 3) the enzymes are responsible for endocannabinoid biosynthesis [i.e., N-acyl-phosphatidyl-ethanolamine-selective phospholipase D (NAPE-PLD) and diacylglycerol lipases (DAGL) α and β, for anandamide and 2-AG, respectively] and hydrolytic inactivation [i.e., fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) and monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL), for anandamide and 2-AG, respectively]. Endocannabinoids and ECS regulate synaptic plasticity in central nervous system to modulate brain functions such as memory, mood and emotions, and pain perceptions. ECS may promote both non-rapid-eye movement and rapid-eye-movement sleep by interacting with melanin-concentrating hormone neurons in the lateral hypothalamus.
THC and THCV were uniquely binding with high affinity to CB1 and CB2 (with agonist and antagonist activity for THC and THCV, respectively). CBD, on the other hand, may “indirectly” active CB1/CB2 by weakly inhibiting AEA enzymatic hydrolysis (i.e., fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH)) to regulate the ECS and effect the pain, anxiety, and insomnia conditions. Cannabinoids also exhibit moderate activity on a wide array of molecular target, i.e. orphan G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), several channel proteins belonging to the transient receptor potential (TRP) family, namely, rat and human TRPV1, as well as serotonin receptors (HT1A) to modulate brain functions, i.e. pain perceptions etc.
The therapeutic efficacy of cannabinoids may be impacted the genetic variations of receptor genes (CB1, CB2, TRPV1, and HT1A), transport and signaling genes, i.e. serotonin transporter (SLC6A4), metabolism genes that activating or inactivating cannabinoids, such as Catechol-O-Methyltransferase (COMT) and Cytochrome P450 genes (CYP2C9 and CYP3A4), as well as interactions of the genetic variations between these genes. Pharmacogenomic and pharmacogenetic test-guided target therapy likely provides cost effective personalized treatments, and it is particularly attractive for complex diseases or disorders of difficult in tailoring their treatments, i.e. chronic pain, insomnia, and anxiety.
]]>Depending on what state you live in you may or may not need a doctor’s recommendation to purchase THC and some CBD products. Here in California, you no longer need a doctor’s recommendation to purchase THC or CBD, although prices will be lower for medical patients.
While each of us is different in how we approach a task, I would like to offer up several suggestions that may make you feel more comfortable and help you on your path to wellness:
The first step would be to take a Greenway DNA saliva test so that you will know exactly what genetic variants you have that effect how your body metabolizes CBD and THC. This test will also provide you with a recommended dosage and a card to present to the dispensary so you can eliminate the trial and error guess work of using cannabis products.
Second, locate the web site of the dispensary you plan to visit, or several that may be in your area. Look at each web site and pick one that is likely to meet your initial expectations. Be sure which ever dispensary you choose has all the necessary credentials and permits as this will ensure that the products you purchase have been tested and meet your states necessary standards.
Next, look through the dispensaries menu and familiarize yourself with the different types of ingestion methods, flavors or types of products you may want to try. For those of you focusing on CBD or a CBD/ THC mix, I would recommend an oil-based product as this promotes absorption by the body more effectively than some of the other options. But again, find something that you would like to try and that you feel comfortable taking. There are a variety of different ingestion methods and each will hold its own pros and cons.
This is also a good time for you to research the products offered. Take a moment to visit several company websites and learn about their products. Learn about what these products typically do, or how you may expect to feel. Write down questions you may have that you can ask your customer service representative (bud tender) at the dispensary. A full understanding of what you want, how the product is made, and your personalized dosage recommendation from your GreenWay DNA card will help your comfort level and confidence that you starting out prepared.
Also, keep in mind that you may want to go during slower business times so you will not feel pressured by crowds. Lastly, I would recommend consulting your primary doctor before pursuing any remedies related to your health, especially if you are currently taking medication and are under the care of a physician.
There you go, this sums up the basics of your first trip to the dispensary! With a little time spent researching and your GreenWay DNA personalized dosage recommendations you are truly empowering your path to wellness.
